More Alaskans Join 49 Faces

The 49 Faces project continues our search for real Alaskans who love to explore the great Alaskan wild.  As we spread our vision of featuring a diversity of Alaskan adventurers in our interactive iBook project, we keep learning about and reaching out to incredibly interesting personalities.

We’re excited that Bjørn Olson has accepted our invitation to join the project. We hope to talk more with Bjørn soon, when he isn’t exploring the state by fat bike and paddle, or surfing Kachemak Bay .  Look for his “Featured Face” biography in upcoming weeks. In the mean time, you may want to explore Bjørn’s creative photography at Mjölnir Photography, or experience his amazing videography on his Vimeo channel. We’ve shared the trailer for his film “Hunting for Monsters”.  If you happen to be in Homer, Alaska next week, you can watch the full film at the Homer Outdoor Film Festival on November 16 at 5 p.m. at Homer High School.

Hunting for Monster

Bjørn’s home of Homer lies across Kachemak Bay from Erin McKittrick’s and Hig’s (Brentwood Higman’s) yurt in Seldovia. We caught up with Erin, Hig, and their family in Fairbanks last month on their tour to share Erin’s amazing book Small Feet, Big Land: Adventure, Home, and Family on the Edge of Alaska.  Erin and Hig are co-founders of Ground Truth Trekking,  a 501(c)(3) nonprofit founded in 2007, which seeks to educate and engage the public on Alaska’s natural resource issues through a combination of wilderness adventure, scientific analysis, and the creation of web resources. We’ve also invited Erin and Hig to join the 49 Faces project, and we are encouraged by their positive response. We hope to visit more with them this winter after they return from their book tour in the Pacific Northwest.
