Alaska Journeys, Old and New

Alaska has always drawn adventurers. The first Alaskans trekked into undiscovered landscapes  or paddled skin boats across island chains and along arctic coastlines. Their journeys with simple, hand-crafted gear and complex knowledge of their environments instill envy and reverence in the hearts of modern wilderness travelers. Millennia after the first Alaskans inhabited...

Winter Musings

The subarctic afternoon twilight dims rapidly, as I glide along on Nordic skis, double-poling behind by my three harnessed huskies.  Fresh tracks of moose, fox, lynx, marten, hare, squirrel, and ptarmigan cross fresh powder on the trail, turn the dogs’ noses, and reveal we aren’t alone in the silent boreal forest. The quarter moon casts shadows of stunted...

The Final Funding Push

The 49 Faces Kickstarter Project enters it’s final few days. We are incredible grateful for the generous support of our Kickstarter backers. Forty-six backers have pledged an average of $65 each for a total of just over $3000 dollars.

We have until 1:53 pm Alaska time on Wednesday, October 2nd to reach our goal of $7800, or we don’t get any of the pledges. If we don’t get fully funded, our backers won’t receive the project incentives. They will get our sincere thanks and will all be eligible for our drawing for a four-hour whitewater rafting trip for two on the Nenana River with Denali Outdoor Center.

The Next Generation

Among the faces lit by the glow of  last Friday evening’s firelight at the 49 Faces Kickoff Barbecue were members of the next generation of Alaskan adventurers. After a rousing session on the bike terrain park, young friends circled around the flames with halibut, hot dogs, and marshmallows. Like all of our 49 Faces, these young Alaskans love to play outdoors....
